Licenses may be purchased for 1, 2 or 3 years as long as the rabies vaccination
is valid for the same period.
The cost for licensing unaltered or fertile pets is higher than for licensing
spayed or neutered pets in order to promote sterilization and to reduce
pet overpopulation and starvation.
Due Date
Payment for your license is due within 30 days of your pet’s vaccination
date or prior license expiration date.
By ordinance, a late fee of $20 is added to each license not purchased within 30 days of the expiration of the prior license. The late fee for senior citizens at least 60 years of age is $15.00 per spayed/neutered pet.
Payment Options
If you are licensing
by mail, you may pay for your license with a check or money order made
payable to "City of Riverside".
If you have received a notice in the mail
and no additional paperwork is required to complete your license, you may be
eligible to pay for your license online
with a major credit
card. A $1.50 convenience fee will be added for each transaction.
Required Paperwork
A current rabies vaccination certificate is required if the rabies
vaccination on file has expired. Please check your certificate
for correct address and pet information.
Proof of spay/neuter, such as a signed statement from a veterinarian
or an invoice for services, is required if the pet has been altered
since the last licensing period and you are applying for the lower
spayed/neutered license fee.
Note: Please send legible copies of your paperwork, as they will not be
returned with your tag and receipt.
