Licensing Ordinance

All dogs over the age of four months must be vaccinated for rabies and licensed with the City of Antioch within 30 days of ownership/possession or new residence in the City of Antioch.

The City of Antioch requires dogs to wear the license tag at all times. If the tag is not on the animal, Animal Control Officers are not required to return the dog to the owner’s home, and the dog may be impounded at the owner’s expense.

Your paperwork will not be returned to you, so please retain a copy of your vaccination certificate for your records.

To qualify for a reduced-fee Senior Citizen license, the person must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a resident of the City and, except for legal dependents, be the sole user of the utilities; and
  2. Be 62 years of age or older, or be disabled as established by The Social Security Administration Supplemental Income Program; and
  3. Have an annual total household income of $24,000 or less per year.

For more information or an Application for Senior Citizen Discount, call the City of Antioch Finance Department at (925) 779-7060.

The cost for licensing unaltered or fertile pets is higher than for licensing spayed or neutered pets in order to promote sterilization and to reduce pet overpopulation and starvation.

Due Date

Payment for your license is due on the last day of the month in which your current license expires. New licenses are due within 30 days of ownership or possession of the dog or new residence in the City of Antioch.

By ordinance, a late fee of $34 is added to each license that is not purchased by the due date.
