Due Date

Beginning January 1, 2010, all dogs, cats and ferrets are required to be licensed with the Town of Cornelius. Pet owners have a grace period through June 30, 2010 to comply with the new ordinance.

Payment for your license is due at the end of the month in which your current license expires. If you are licensing for the first time, you must purchase a license within 30 days of obtaining a dog over the age of 4 months or within 30 days of establishing residence in the Town of Cornelius.

A late fee of $10 is added if the license has not been purchased within 30 days of the first notice.

You may license by mail and pay for your license with a check or money order made payable to "Cornelius Animal Licensing."

You may license online and pay for your license with a major credit card. A convenience fee will apply per transaction.

You may license in person at the Cornelius Town Hall. Please bring a copy of your pet's current rabies certificate and proof of spay/neuter.

Required Paperwork for Licensing

  1. A current rabies vaccination certificate is required if the rabies vaccination on file has expired. Please check your certificate for correct address and pet information.

  3. Proof of age is required to receive the no-charge license for senior citizens age 65 and over with a spayed or neutered pet.
  4. If requesting the free service dog license, please provide proof that the dog is being used by a disabled owner for seeing or hearing purposes.
