All dogs and cats over 2 months old in Steilacoom and Lakewood are required to be licensed. A current rabies vaccination is required for all dogs and cats.

Instructions to License Online

Ready to purchase your license? If you would like to license online, a convenience fee of $1.95 will apply for each transaction. Any required documents may be scanned and uploaded or submitted later by fax, mail or email. The license will be issued after all required documents are received.

Required Paperwork

  • Proof of spay/neuter, such as a signed statement from a veterinarian, is required if the pet has been altered since the last licensing period and you are applying for the lower spayed/neutered license fee.
  • All pets are required to have a current rabies vaccination. A copy of a current rabies vaccination certificate is requested for each pet.

Note: Please send legible copies of your paperwork, as they will not be returned with your tag and receipt.

The cost for licensing unaltered or fertile pets is higher than for licensing spayed or neutered pets in order to promote sterilization and to reduce pet overpopulation and starvation.

Due Date

All licenses expire on December 31st regardless of the date of purchase. Payment for your license is due by February 28th.

By ordinance, a late fee is added to each license not purchased within 30 days of the expiration of the prior license.
