On July 1, 2012, the City of Eugene took over licensing responsibilities for Eugene dogs from Lane County. A new City of Eugene license tag will be included free of charge the first time you license your pet through the city. Please discard your pet's old Lane County tag when you receive the new City tag. Please only pay the replacement tag fee if your pet has previously received a City of Eugene tag which is now lost or unreadable.
The cost for licensing unaltered or fertile pets is higher than for licensing spayed or neutered pets in order to promote sterilization and to reduce pet overpopulation.

Required Paperwork
- A current rabies vaccination certificate is required if the rabies vaccination on file has expired. Please check your certificate for correct address and pet information.
- Proof of spay/neuter is required if the pet has been altered since the last licensing period and you are applying for the lower spayed/neutered license fee. The pet's rabies vaccination certificate may indicate the spay/neuter status. Alternate proof items include a signed statement from a veterinarian or an invoice for services.
- If this is a service animal, please include a completed service dog application.
- Voluntary cat licenses do not require a rabies certificate or proof of spay/neuter.
Your paperwork will not be returned to you, so please retain a copy of your documents for your records.
