Required Paperwork
- A current Rabies vaccination certificate is required if the rabies vaccination on file has expired. Please check your certificate for correct address and pet information. If your veterinarian has issued an official State Certificate of Medical Exemption from Rabies Vaccination for your pet, you may provide it instead of a rabies vaccination certificate.
- Proof of spay/neuter, such as indication on the rabies certificate, a signed statement from a veterinarian or an invoice for services is required if the pet has been altered since the last licensing period and you are applying for the lower spayed/neutered license fee.
- Proof of age for seniors age 65 and over, such as a copy of an identification card.
Your paperwork will not be returned to you, so please retain a copy of your documents for your records.

As of 7/1/16, dog licenses in the State of Delaware will be valid for 1, 2 or 3 years from the date of purchase.
- For a 1-year license, your pet’s rabies vaccination or state authorized exemption certificate must be current at the time of purchase.
- For a 2-year license, there must be more than 1 year remaining on the rabies vaccination as of the purchase date.
- For a 3-year license, there must be more than 2 years remaining on the rabies vaccination as of the purchase date.
The cost for licensing unaltered or fertile pets is higher than for licensing spayed or neutered pets in order to promote sterilization and to reduce pet overpopulation and starvation.
