Why did I receive this notice?

Why am I being billed when I have a current registration?
There may be several reasons why you received a bill when you have a current registration. We're happy to help with your account information - please fill out this form to begin the process.
When will I get my registration tag?
We will mail your tag and registration receipt within 10 business days from the day we receive your completed registration application and payment. Please allow an additional 3-5 business days to receive your tag or receipt in the mail. If we have not received correct payment or proper documentation you will be notified via mail and the processing of your registration will be delayed.
How do I get a replacement tag?
You may obtain a replacement tag by sending a check or money order payable to “Fayette County Animal Registration" in the amount of $5.00 to the mailing address below. Please do not send cash. You may include either a copy of your prior registration receipt or a note to designate the pet for which you are purchasing a replacement tag. Only one registration tag can be active at one time. Requests for multiple tags for the same animal cannot be fulfilled.
Can I transfer a registration?
A pet registration may not be transferred from one owner to another owner or from one pet to another pet. A new registration must be purchased.
How long is this registration valid?
Your pet’s registration is valid for 1, 2 or 3 years from the date of vaccination, and will expire on the anniversary of the vaccination date. Pet registrations will not be valid beyond the expiration of the rabies vaccination.
Where is the local animal shelter?
The Fayette County Animal Shelter is located at 400 Clark Road in Somerville. Call for an appointment.

I have found a pet: what should I do?
If the pet that you have found is wearing a Fayette County registration tag, please enter the tag number in the tag search box on the left side of the page. If you need assistance, you may call our office at 844-420-1547.
I have lost a pet: what should I do?
If an Animal Control Officer finds your pet, and your pet is wearing a current registration tag on its collar, Animal Control will contact you. If another citizen finds your pet with its registration tag, they may call the phone number on the tag, or lookup the tag number through our online tag search.
If your pet has been lost, Animal Control recommends that you visit the shelter to look for your pet at least every other day. The Fayette County Animal Shelter is located at 400 Clark Road in Somerville. You may contact Animal Control at 901-465-3456 regarding your pet. Call for an appointment.
Why should I register?
Registration helps Animal Control identify family pets, should an animal become lost. The fees from registration are used to care for animals and investigate complaints about stray animals, among other services. Other goals of animal registration are to promote responsible pet ownership and to reduce the tragedies associated with lost pets and pet overpopulation.
What are the registration requirements?
Licensing Ordinance
All dogs and cats 6 months of age and older must be vaccinated against rabies and registered with Fayette County within 7 days of acquiring the pet.
Due Date
Payment for your registration is due within 30 days of the expiration of your current registration. If you are registering for the first time, you must register your pet within 7 days of obtaining a dog or cat over the age of 6 months.
License Term

Why was registration privatized?
Fayette County chose to privatize animal registration beginning in 2017 to promote animal registration, to increase the cost-effectiveness of the program, and to provide additional services to its citizens.
