Licensing Ordinance

All dogs over the age of 4 months must be vaccinated for rabies and licensed by the person owning, harboring, or controlling the dog within the City, within 30 days after taking residence in the City or becoming the owner or custodian of the dog.

A maximum of three (3) dogs per residence is allowed.

To license by mail:

  1. Enclose copies of all required paperwork. The license application below may be downloaded and included, but it is not required.
  2. Determine the correct license fee for each of your dogs.
  3. Make your check or money order payable to “City of Redondo Beach”. Please do not send cash.
  4. Mail your paperwork and payment to:

Required Paperwork

  1. A current rabies vaccination certificate is required to license your dog for the first time or if the rabies vaccination on file has expired. An invoice or statement of services is not sufficient as proof of rabies vaccination. Please check your certificate for correct address and dog information.
  2. Proof of spay/neuter, such as a signed statement from a veterinarian or an invoice for services is required if the dog has been altered since the last licensing period and you are applying for the lower spayed/neutered license fee.
  3. Proof of age such as a driver’s license or other government issued photo identification with a date of birth is required to receive the discounted fees for senior citizens age 60 and over.

Your paperwork will not be returned to you, so please retain a copy of your documents for your records.

The cost for licensing unaltered or fertile pets is higher than for licensing spayed or neutered pets in order to promote sterilization and to reduce pet overpopulation.

Due Date

Payment for your license is due within 30 days of the expiration of your current license. If you are licensing for the first time, you must purchase a license within 30 days of becoming the owner or custodian of a dog over the age of 4 months or within 30 days after taking residence in the City of Redondo Beach.

LATE PENALTY AND COLLECTION ADMIN FEES

A $25 Late Penalty Fee will apply to licenses purchased more than 30 days after the due date. For licenses purchased more than 60 days after the due date, a fee of $59 ($25 Penalty + $34 Collection Fee) will be applied. For licenses purchased more than 90 days after the due date, a fee of $76 ($25 Penalty + $34 +$17 Collection Fees) will be applied. Late Penalty and Collection Admin Fees accrue for each missed year of licensing.
