The cost for registering unaltered or fertile pets is higher than for registering spayed or neutered pets in order to promote sterilization and to reduce pet overpopulation.

Required Paperwork
- A current rabies vaccination certificate is required if the rabies vaccination on file has expired. Please check your certificate for correct address and pet information.
Your paperwork will not be returned to you, so please retain a copy of your documents for your records.
Mailing Address
To license by mail:
- Enclose copies of all required paperwork. The license application below may be downloaded and included, but it is not required.
- Determine the correct license fee for each of your pets.
- Make your check or money order payable to “County of Albemarle.” Please do not send cash.
Payments that are denied or returned by the bank unpaid due to insufficient funds will be subject to a $35.00 administrative fee - Mail your paperwork and payment to:
