Licensing Ordinance

All dogs and cats 8 weeks of age and older must be licensed with the City of Auburn within 30 days of being in the city. Pets over the age of 6 months must have a current rabies vaccination per Sections 6.04.015 and 6.04.210 of the Auburn City Code and consistent with the WAC provisions, but proof of rabies vaccination is not required for animal licensing.

  1. Enclose copies of all required paperwork. The license application below may be downloaded and included, but it is not required.
  2. Determine the correct license fee for each of your pets.
  3. Make your check or money order payable to "Auburn Animal Licensing." Please do not send cash.

Required Paperwork

  1. Proof of spay/neuter, such as a signed statement from a veterinarian or an invoice for services is required if the pet has been altered since the last licensing period and you are applying for the lower spayed/neutered license fee. A Spay/Neuter Statement is also accepted as proof of spay or neuter provided that the statement is signed by the owner and the date of surgery and clinic which performed the surgery is included.
  2. Proof of age is required to receive the discounted fees for senior citizens age 62 and over.
  3. Proof of disability is required to receive the discounted fee for disabled citizens. Proof of disability must be submitted annually. An Eligibility Form is accepted as proof of disability provided that the statement is signed by the owner or the owner's legal guardian. A photocopy of any of the items listed on the form is also accepted as proof.

Your paperwork will not be returned to you, so retain a copy of your documents for your records.

The cost for licensing unaltered or fertile pets is higher than for licensing spayed or neutered pets in order to promote sterilization and to reduce pet overpopulation.

Due Date

Payment for your license is due within 45 days of the expiration of your current license. If you are licensing for the first time, you must purchase a license within 30 days of obtaining a pet over the age of 8 weeks or within 30 days of moving into the City of Auburn.

A late fee is added to the license fee if your license is not purchased by the due date and will continue to accrue while the license remains unpaid.
