Due Date

Payment for your license is due on the expiration date of your current license. If you are licensing for the first time, you must purchase a license within 30 days of obtaining a dog over the age of 4 months or within 30 days of moving into Jefferson County.

A late fee is added to the license fee if your license is not purchased by 60 days after the due date. The late fee is $10 after 60 days, $20 after 90 days, and $30 after 120 days.

License Term

Licenses are valid for the number of months purchased from the date of purchase for a new license, as long as the rabies vaccination is valid for the same period of time. A minimum one-year license term is required unless the rabies vaccination will expire earlier. The license may not be valid beyond the expiration of the rabies vaccination, so a monthly fee may be paid to match the remaining term of the rabies vaccination.
